'The Hangover' Take Memorial Day Weekend Box Office

Fans can’t get enough of ‘The Hangover.’ The second installment beat out a karate chopping panda and a few pirates to top the weekend box office.

In the five days since its release the Warner Brothers comedy grossed an impressive $137.4 million becoming the highest opening for a comedy ever. The film pretty much copies the first movie: a wedding, too much drinking, and ending up in trouble. Even with less than favorable reviews fans still headed out to see the Bradley Cooper flick. Foreign audiences also love ‘The Hangover,’ which made $59 million since opening , three times more than the first movie.

Even though it was far behind, ‘Kung-Fu Panda 2’ didn’t do so bad either, grossing $67 million since opening. Jack Black reprises his role as the cuddly panda bear Po  who thinks he’s more of a ninja warrior than he actually is. The film also did well overseas bringing in $57 million in 11 different countries, the best of which was in China with $18.7 million, the biggest opening ever for a foreign film in the country.

Third place went to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ with $50.4 million in its second week of release. The movie however experienced a 55 percent drop since opening with $164 million. But don’t feel bad for Johnny Depp and company just yet, in two weeks ‘Pirates’ has made $649.1 million worldwide. At No. 4 on the list is the comedy ‘Bridesmaids’ taking in $16.4 million bringing its three week total to $89.4 million.
