DUI Suspect Jumps In Pacific Ocean To Escape Police
If there's one thing that you want to do to prove to cops that you're not drunk, it's jump in the ocean to get away from them.
A California man jumped in the Pacific Ocean after being pulled over by police on suspicion of driving under the influence at 2:30 in the morning. Instead of facing the consequences of his actions, the 28-year-old of La Mesa, Calif., left his passenger and evaded police by jumping out of his pick-up truck and high tailing it into the water.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was wearing a t-shirt and jeans but still managed to swim away from the scene. Local lifeguards and the Coast Guard joined in the search for the man but was unable to find him in the water. The friend that he ditched cooperated with authorities giving them the man's address and telephone number. Family members reported that he was eventually found. "A family member confirmed that he’s safe," said San Diego police Capt., Brian Ahearn.
According to Ahearn the man could face several charges, and may have to pay the city back for cost endured from the rescue efforts.
